If you’d like to find out if you are eligible for dental implants and which options would be best for your situation, click here to take our 60 second online quiz.

When exploring dental implants there are a number of factors to bear in mind, if you are interested but have been told that you are not a candidate due to bone loss from having dentures for too long; this might be true for regular dental implants but there is another solution. Those with severe bone loss in the upper jaw may need an advanced option – Zygoma implants.

Zygomatic dental implants are beneficial to patients that have experienced severe bone loss. These teeth implants significantly reduce the time, expenses, and the number of surgeries compared to regular dental implants. In most cases we are able to give patients same day teeth. Zygomatic dental implants help patients avoid sinus grafts, hip grafts, and prolonged waiting to get traditional dental implants and teeth.

If you’ve been told you don’t have enough bone for dental implant surgery, Bonita Del Rey Dental Care can help. Thanks to modern research leading to advancement of the Zygomatic dental implants, patients who have been told they are not candidates for conventional dental implants, or must resort to dentures, can be treated successfully by the implant specialists at our Chula Vista, CA dental office.
There are very few surgeons in the world who regularly perform the Zygomatic dental implant procedure and Dr. Aldo Espinosa DDS is one of those surgeons.

WHAT ARE ZYGOMA IMPLANTS AND HOW ARE THEY DIFFERENT?

Traditional dental implants involve drilling directly into the upper jaw bone, which often requires a bone grafting procedure to ensure proper implant placement. Unfortunately, for those with severe bone loss in the upper jaw, bone grafting is no longer an option. Zygoma implants, however, offer an alternative option. Designed specifically for patients with severe bone loss, Zygomatic implants are tilted and have much longer length than those used in traditional dental implants. While traditional implants are placed in the jawbone, Zygomatic dental implants are placed in the cheekbone (Zygoma) which is very dense and provides excellent support. This ensures a secure foundation to support teeth.

WILL PATIENTS WITH BONE LOSS NEED BONE GRAFTS?

Traditionally patients with bone loss would need bone grafting which can add 6 months to a year, but with the Zygomatic implant procedure, our doctors at Bonita Del Rey Dental Care routinely and successfully provide patients with full mouth restorations in one day with no bone grafting.

What are the benefits of using Zygoma implants?

If you have been told that you do not have enough bone on the upper jaw for dental implants, then you should consider Zygomatic dental implants. A few of the many benefits of Zygomatic implants are:

  • Restore your smile: because of their Immediate function (aka, “teeth-in-a-day”) – Zygoma implants are a “graft-less” procedure which expedites the entire experience allowing patients to leave with immediate aesthetic and functional improvements.
  • Improve chewing and speaking
  • Improved bone strength – Zygoma dental implants are made of titanium which stimulates the surrounding bone to develop new bone structure via a process known as osseointegration. Not only does this help to secure the implant, it also strengthens the surrounding bone.
  • Boost your confidence
  • Minimally invasive – Unlike traditional implant techniques that require invasive bone grafting, Zygoma implants use 3D scanning for accuracy and are generally performed under IV sedation.
